Alien Beasts: The Lack of Coherence is Out of This World!
Alien Beasts (1991) fails to deliver any horror, suspense, plot or entertainment. The movie is about a CIA unit that fights against mutated humans and terrorists who are infected by alien radiation. This is about as far as anyone can get watching the film in deciphering anything resembling a storyline. The only consistency that can be extracted from this film is the constant coughing in the background, and every sentence that is narrated will be repeated for you twice (just in case you did not hear it the first time).
The film stars Carl J. Sukenick, who also acted as director and wrote the script. The movie suffered from a lack of budget and any form of coherence. The dialogue, acting, editing, and narration, are just awful. When watching this for the first time, I had to decide whether the first scene was in fact a fight scene, and not just some kids jostling on the front lawn.
The movie also has random scenes of nudity and gore that serve no purpose. There is one scene where what is believed to be an alien beast (now I could be wrong), that lasts ten minutes, molesting a topless woman and threatening to punish her if she moves. This same actress is filmed for roughly ten minutes putting things in and out of a closet without a top on.
Alien Beasts is a film only recommended for those who are fans of so-bad-it’s-good cinema or those who enjoy watching trashy and weird movies for laughs. Despite my initial bad-mouthing of this film, I did like some of the effects. Seeing a lit sparkler fire into a beast’s chest was pretty cool, along with the exploding Styrofoam head. It is definitely worth a watch, but I do not think I will be watching this film again any time soon.
