MINE: A Tale of Madness and Obsession

Robert McCammon’s MINE successfully combined terror and suspense, winning the author the Bram Stoker award the year of its publication. The story follows Laura Clayborne, who must become as ruthless and hate-fuelled as her son’s captor to save her son.

Braindead (aka Dead Alive): Dead Good

Peter Jackson’s Splatterpunk horror-comedy masterpiece Braindead is truly a sight to behold. Evil Dead-esque zombies, an unhealthy mother-son dynamic, a Kung Fu priest, a stop-motion monkey-rat hybrid, a Klownzilla final boss, unmatched gore and brutality, and a killer sense of humour – this film has everything, but uncommonly does everything well!

The Frighteners: The Ghostly Gainsaying Amusement Ride

Peter Jackson’s 1996 film The Frighteners is very much a typical ghost train at an amusement park. There are plenty of twists and turns, enough of which to disorientate you. Whilst not frightening (and not being expected to be frightened as you queue up), it may still be enthralling for any fan of the macabre. It’s fun for sure, but does it make sense?

Shadow Builder: A Review

Shadow Builder is a mixed bag of a horror film with both positive and negative aspects. It successfully creates an eerie atmosphere and features strong performances. Yet it falls short in terms of a thin plot, underdeveloped characters, and uneven pacing.
