Fear Street is a YA (Young Adult) horror fiction novella series written by R. L. Stine that began in 1989.

In the original series, FS sold 80 million copies worldwide. Due to the success of the original series, 13 additional spin-off series were spawned. This brings the total published books in the series to 159.

There were 51 novels in the original FS series starting with The New Girl, the first book published in 1989. The series ended with the last novel Trapped being published in 1997. A further 108 books became part of the FS canon through the aforementioned 13 spin-off series.

All the books in the FS series take place in the fictional town of Shadyside. Each book depicts regular adolescents who are older than the traditional Goosebumps preteens and who face malicious, often otherworldly, foes. The exception to the rule is the ghost-written Ghosts of Fear Street spin-off series. In the Ghosts of Fear Street series, these foes are often monsters – like in Goosebumps.

In 2021, Netflix released 3 films based on the series – the Fear Street trilogy! This was a huge success. However, not all was to share this. Less people may know that there was a pilot episode that was aired on ABC Television on July 31 1998 titled Ghosts of Fear Street. This was a flop and the series was pulled.

35 Sci-Fi Horror and Alien Books from the 90s

Over the past couple of weeks, I have really got the sci-fi bug. Whilst you won’t find me watching Star Trek or Star Wars anytime soon, I have been enjoying science fiction, particularly books that feature extra-terrestrials, but with a horror twist.

This of course led me to research what sci-fi horror titles are out there. Here is that list!

Trapped: Stuck in a Good Book

The final book in the original Fear Street series, Trapped (1997) has to be my favourite read from the series as a whole so far. This 51st instalment of the series is fast-paced, and whilst not gory as such, that is not to say that it is not graphic!
